What adds to a bifold door quote

  • Structural knock-through and RSJ steel beam (€1,800 to €3,500). If you are widening an existing 1.8m sliding patio door or rear kitchen window into a 3.0m to 4.5m bifold opening, a builder must prop the first-floor masonry, set a galvanized or primed RSJ steel beam on concrete padstones, remove the blockwork below and plaster the reveals.
  • Integral Venetian blinds inside the glass (€250 to €450 per panel). Hermetically sealed magnetic blinds sit inside the 20mm argon cavity between the toughened panes. They never gather kitchen grease or dust and never bang when the doors fold back.
  • Flush track and ACO slot drainage (€450 to €950). Sinking the bottom track into the floor screed so kitchen tiles run level out onto patio porcelain requires a linear stainless or polymer drainage channel outside connected to your surface water drain.
  • Dual-colour and textured powder coating. Stock RAL colours (RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 9005 Jet Black, RAL 9016 White) are normally included in the base price; bespoke dual colours or marine-grade anodised finishes add 10% to 15%.

What to check on your written quote

  • Whole-door U-value (Ud), not center-pane glass Ug. A 1.1 W/m²K double-glazed glass unit typically gives a whole-door Ud of 1.3 to 1.4 W/m²K once the aluminium sash profiles are included; 0.6 W/m²K triple glass brings Ud down to 0.9 to 1.0 W/m²K.
  • Bottom-rolling vs top-hung gear. Bottom-rolling systems carry the weight of the glass through stainless steel bogie wheels on the floor track, putting far less downward load on your overhead steel lintel.
  • Traffic door hardware. Confirm which side the daily-use traffic door sits on, whether it swings inside or outside, and that a magnetic hold-back catch is fitted so the open traffic leaf cannot slam in a gust before folding.

Questions homeowners ask

How much is a 3 metre bifold door in Ireland?

A 3-metre opening normally takes a 3-panel bifold door (each panel around 950mm–980mm wide), costing €3,600 to €5,800 supplied and fitted in thermally broken aluminium or €4,800 to €7,400 in timber alu-clad.

How much is a 4 metre bifold door in Ireland?

A 4-metre opening normally takes a 4-panel bifold door (commonly configured as 3+1 so one panel acts as a daily traffic door), costing €4,800 to €7,600 supplied and fitted in aluminium or €6,400 to €9,600 in alu-clad.

Are bifold doors eligible for the SEAI grant?

Under the 2026 SEAI Better Energy Homes scheme, external doors receive €800 per door (for up to two doors) when replacing old pre-2011 doors as part of an upgrade that brings the home's Heat Loss Indicator below the SEAI threshold. New extensions do not qualify.
